Catharsis

2021
A Site Specific Interactive Experiential Student Exhibition

During the semester all of my artwork interacted with the subject of alcohol.

Taking that theme, I looked at the popular Rage Rooms and combined the two to create an artistic walkthrough experience.

The goal was to give the viewer a chance to let go of their burdens and either smash them or deal with them as they saw fit.

The Experience:

You walk up and grab a bottle with a name tag representing a fraternity brother or fellow art student and pour out their burdens (water). You then take this now empty bottle and fill it with whatever burden you write on a piece of paper. You are then presented with multiple options. Option number one you can throw it at yourself (a mirror) which indicates harming yourself with your burden. Option two you can throw the burden at me which is me representing a friend or other person indicating harming someone else with your burden. Option three was a safe space and the ideal smash zone for the bottles. There was an Option four where the person could leave with the bottle but it's not presented via sign like the rest.
